Ken Lay to use 'method acting' defense

Says he only ripped off Enron to prepare for movie role

http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | One day after actress Winona Ryder claimed that she only shoplifted to prepare for a role in an upcoming movie, a source close to former Enron CEO Kenneth Lay said that he plans to use a similar "Method acting" defense when his case goes to trial.

Mr. Lay intends to claim that he was preparing for a lead role in a proposed movie entitled, "The Time I Ripped Off A Major Houston Energy Giant and Left Millions Of Shareholders Completely Fleeced."

The source said that Mr. Lay was rehearsing for his performance in the starring role, "Ken Day," the CEO of a fictitious Houston energy giant called "Enrun."

"Ken has always worshiped Method acting," the source said. "Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro are like gods to him."

After months of studying with legendary acting teacher Uta Hagen, Mr. Lay decided that the only way to prepare for what he called "the role of a lifetime" was by ripping off a Houston energy giant himself.

"He's very much trying to create this character from the inside out, and looting Enron was the best way to do that," the source said.

While Ms. Ryder and Mr. Lay's "Method acting" defense is considered a high-risk legal strategy, if it proves successful it could influence the way domestic diva Martha Stewart ultimately defends herself in court.

According to friends of the embattled lifestyle guru, Ms. Stewart is now considering claiming that for the last few years she was preparing to play the lead in a film entitled, "I Was an Insider Trader and Lied About It to the SEC."
