Democrat Atonement?

Sitting down to write my column this week, the week of the Jewish New Year heading towards Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, I find myself in a somewhat blue mood. Atonement, repentance and prayer are what the Jewish faithful are concerned with at this holy time of the year.

It is a time of introspection, to consider our actions over the past year and to ask G od to forgive us our sins, inscribe us in the Book of Life, and seal our fate for a year of life, health, and happiness.

But beyond my personal reflections, I think about my country and it saddens me. I know I shouldn't get political. I know my concerns this week should be higher than that. Still, I ponder the political events of the past couple of years and realize for all intents and purposes the United States is now engaged in a national coup. My wonderful country is being torn apart thanks to political hacks.

In the past if a political party lost the White House they would look inward, figure out what they needed to do to recapture the voters, regroup and set out to try again next time. In the meanwhile they would do what they could to work with the opposing party and the president to keep government working.

That's over now. The Democrats have never accepted the results of the 2016 presidential election and they have made up their collective minds to destroy President Trump. It began even before he was inaugurated. They proudly proclaimed they would "RESIST" him, his policies, and his administration and they have in every conceivable way. From the moment he took office they vowed to impeach and they have been looking for a crime to fit the punishment ever since.

They tried everything they could to hang the president and nothing stuck. Now time is growing short, the election is only 13 months away and they've got to act fast. So they've latched onto a phone call that President Trump made to the Ukrainian president and that's the basket that they've put all their eggs in.

This is it; this is their last shot. Now we have entered into a new phase, we have passed the point of no return and our country has been dragged into an impeachment war, a war that is guaranteed to last for at least the next year.

They know they can't get Donald Trump kicked out of office with impeachment. They won't have the votes in the Senate to do that. Their hope, and all their energy, will be focused in a media blitz to win over the American people's minds. They must do whatever they can to convince the American electorate to vote against President Trump in the 2020 election. "Vote for the Democrat candidate (no matter who it is) and get the evil, racist, white supremacist, lying, crook out!" That will be their message.

If they are successful in that message than Trump will be gone. It's a long shot, but it's all they've got. You can depend on President Trump to fight back. Unfortunately the majority of the news media, academia, and the entertainment industry are on the Democrat side. All Trump has on his side are the millions of patriotic voters who put him into office, the great things that heÕs accomplished for this country, and, oh yes, the truth.

When did the Democrats decide to be the party of liars and cheats? At what point did they drift so far into socialism and statism? Maybe they were always that way but they used to be better at hiding it. Now they don't care to hide it anymore because they think there's enough of the populous that thinks the same way they do. That's what a couple of generations of indoctrination will get you.

Yom Kippur means "Day of Atonement," as the verse states, "For on this day He will forgive you, to purify you, that you be cleansed from all your sins before G od." It would be wonderful if the Dems could collectively follow the teachings of the Jewish religion this week and atone for the sins that they've committed against the American people (let alone to G od).

It would be refreshing if Nancy Pelosi, Adam Shiff, Chuck Schumer, Jerry Nadler and all the rest would ask for forgiveness and cleanse themselves of their sins. But it will never happen. It's awfully hard to cleanse yourself when you're much happier to wallow deep in the mud of dirty politics.
