There is so much going on in our world today and much of it is not very good.

Israel is still fighting for its very existence against radical Islamism. Since the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israel it has been bravely fighting back, but somehow ever since then the world pressure has been on Israel to NOT fight back.

The world always makes Israel out to be the bad guys, no matter what. Even President Trump has lately taken to pushing Israel into the background on his recent trip to the Middle East. He cozies up to rich Arab leaders and even an actual terrorist (current Syrian leader) while not even making a stop to visit with Netanyahu before coming home.

Hamas has not been completely destroyed, which by this time it should have been. Meanwhile, our president says he wants to “make a deal” with Iran, the state sponsor of the terror groups who keep attacking Israel in an effort to exterminate Israel and Jews in general. This befuddles me because there is no deal to be made with a terrorist regime whose main objective is to use nuclear bombs against Israel, the United States, and really all the Western nations for the jihadist purpose of exterminating them.

You don't need to take my word for it, the Iranian mullahs have been saying this for years. When your enemy keeps telling you he wants to kill you, at some point, you really need to believe him. The Middle East is a big thing. Making sure Iran never has the ability to build nuclear weapons is a big thing. And then we have the Uranian and Russia war. Another very big thing. And as it stands right now, another problem that isn't close to being resolved. Again, how do you make a deal with a ruler who want to keep fighting until he takes over another country?

These wars and how they eventually shake out will have consequences in other places. China is watching with interest since they have their eyes and weapons laser focused on Taiwan, and pretty much all of the Asian Pacific. If Putin wins, China will make a grab for what they want.

And don't forget how close India and Pakistan were a couple of weeks ago to a nuclear showdown. Yes, another big thing that could have cost millions of lives.

The Biden scandal, maybe the biggest scandal in American history, is a very big thing that has done much damage to the reputations of the Democrats, our government agencies, and the American press. The question is not whether Joe Biden was fit to call the shots as president, everyone now knows he certainly wasn't. The question is just who was in charge? Who was making the decisions? Yes, a very big thing.

There are many more really big things in the world I could name, things that if not addressed correctly and soon, could alter forever the geopolitical direction of the world and its people. But I think you get the idea.

In a very real sense there is not much I can do to solve these big things. I read about them and hear about them. They concern me, but not in a personal way. I'm too far removed from the battlefields. My battlefield, is the one that I'm living in right now, in my own home and in my own head.

In the context of small things versus big things, what I have to cope with is the biggest thing in my entire life. Coping with the death of my wife, my wife of 47 years is the biggest thing that I've ever had to face. The personal tragedies of our lives, the loss of the people we love so much are the real big things. In my case the loss of my wife who was my best friend, my partner, my soul mate, and my purpose in life is more devastating to me than anything going on in the world.

So what are the small things and what are the big things? If you ask me, a little woman named Jane who was about four foot ten and weighed less than 115 pounds at the end, was the biggest thing in my life. She still is. She will always be.
