State Dept. Chef Bought And Prepared Food For Hillary

Jason Larkin, the acclaimed Executive Chef at the State Department, apparently shopped and prepared food for Hillary Clinton in addition to his full-time job.

In an email sent on Sunday night, January 3, 2010, Hillary Clinton told State Department employee Monica Hanley (hanleymr@state.gov) that she wanted to "work with her to prepare a menu for Jason," and asked whether "Jason gives me a monthly bill for the food he buys and prepares for me?"

What was he buying food for and what was he preparing? If Hillary had been talking about a business-related meal, she wouldn't be paying for it.

It was the last night of the Christmas/New Year holiday and Hillary was looking ahead to the New Year. Hanley responded at 9:30 PM that night and told Hillary that Jason was given "money advances" but she didn't know how much. She promised to get the total for 2009.

Should a State Department employee be cooking on the side for the Secretary of State? And who decided that arrangement was okay? And how much was he paid?

So far, no email from Hanley to Hillary with the total amount she paid has surfaced.
