How sports owners and cable sports networks can help jumpstart the economy
As America begins its fourth week of military action in Iraq,
sports owners and cable sports networks can help a part of
the economy that has taken a hit since the first bombs fell on
The airline industry has seen a decline in business since the war
started and that has a domino effect on the hotel-motel, car
rental and restaurant business. Sports owners and cable
companies owe a great deal of their successes to the
government and its time that both entities give something back.
During any cablecast of a sports event,
announcers should be talking up a city or an area and tell
people to see the sights of another city.
Owners have gotten stadiums with funding from hotel,
motel, car rental and restaurant taxes. With the travel industry
slumping, some municipalities will be forced to raise other taxes
or cut services to make up for shortfalls that would go to pay
off stadium debts.
Owners should be promoting travel
for various reasons, including that sports depends on
Americans need to get into cars,
trains and planes because travel and tourism are
vital parts of the economy.
