The most frequent question my fellow "Binyamin's helpers" receive after inquiries about how Binyamin is healing, is: "When will JWR again be offering all of its daily features"? Y'all miss the amazing amount of content JWR used to publish daily. And I don't blame you! We all miss Binyamin and what he used to provide us, single-handedly. We want it, and him, back.
Sometime in the next 48 hours, Binyamin himself will be releasing a note to all his friends about the future of this site, his health and other issues. To receive the note, you need to be signed up for the daily JWR newsletter. You can do so by clicking here.

13 columns on various topics appear below. Binyamin, who is slowly beginning to mend, picked them. He's hoping JWR in all its glory will return soon. Binyamin asked that you continue to pray for him using his Hebrew name: Binyamin Leib ben (Hebrew: son of) Peshe. He says he "really needs" all the prayers he can get.
A very special "thank you" to all of those who responded to my posting yesterday (see, below). I am truly astounded. JWR has such a diverse readership, not only in terms of types of folks who read the site, but your locations all over the world.

12/23/2009, 2 am UPDATE (from Brian R.):
15 enlightening columns are linked below.
Far be it for me to argue with the great Jimmy Breslin, but I was struck by something he said in an amusing column that one of my co-"Binyamin's helpers" dug up. Writing in the very first issue of JWR way back 1997, Breslin opines about Binyamin, "Good for him. He wants to have a religion on a Saturday." Implying, but not said of course, is: "Binyamin does his thing as a Jew. I do mine as a Christian". How wrong Breslin turned out to be.
I've been reading JWR for so long, I don't even remember how I discovered it. What's more, I'm a proud, believing Christian. I am certain there are many, many of us here.
Why do I say Breslin is wrong? Because you'd think that a site with the name "Jewish" in it would merely tolerate Christians who happen to read it. Instead, Binyamin embraces us. Talk about being ecumenical and open-minded.
I, for one, am grateful that when Binyamin suspends publication because of a holy day that keeps him at prayer and reflective study, he almost always puts up a truncated issue for those of who do not share his faith. I'm sure before a holy festival he has better things to do. But he thinks of us.
After almost a decade of daily reading, I have never once seen an article in JWR that even slightly mocked my religious beliefs. Just the opposite. When the late B.C. cartoonist Johnny Hart came under attack, Binyamin defended him eloquently. After the Pope's passing, JWR ran this moving appreciation. JWR has also been shining the spotlight on abuses against Christians worldwide. (See Jeff Jacoby's column today, linked below.)
And then there's this column that I dug up. It's by Michelle Malkin. Titled "Defenders of the faith --- all faiths", it's a compelling read that captures some of Binyamin's goodness.
•
These are some of the reasons that I'm volunteering to help JWR for the next couple of days.
• These are some of the reasons that we Christians, at Christmas, should be thankful there are Jews like Binyamin Jolkovsky and the community he represents.
• These are some of the reasons why we Christians, at Christmas, should be supporting JWR and its publisher, especially during his hour of need.

12/22/2009, 2 am UPDATE (from Sheldon B.):
Here are 15 columns. It was my honor (and pleasure) to help out my fellow readers and Binyamin. However, there's going to come a time when Binyamin will no longer be able to rely on volunteers like me and the others who have stepped in and up. It will likely be sooner than later. Take it from somebody who spent much of his weekend and yesterday preparing articles and responding to reader mail, there's a lot of work that goes into JWR every day!
You can make a real difference by mailing in a measly buck or two (address is at the bottom of HERE or you can donate electronically, HERE. Both are tax deductible ) The help will be for Binyamin, but also us. Why not help ourselves? Are we not worth a couple of bucks?

12/21/2009, 1:30 am UPDATE (from Sheldon B.):
Here are 14 columns, including some much needed humor to start the week off.
At this point, based on my predecessors' templates, it has become customary to tell a "Binyamin story". Here's mine.
A few years ago, I unsubscribed to the daily JWR newsletter. The system is set up so whenever a reader ends his subscription, Binyamin gets a notice. A few minutes later, I get this note back from a guy claiming to be JWR's Editor in Chief telling me that he values each and every reader and though my subscription ended, could I please let him know what it was that spurred my action.
I must say that I was very impressed. Not just with the idea that somebody actually wanted to know why I severed my relationship with a site that was not charging me for access. (Hence, they weren't losing a paid account.) But as a programmer, it really looked like a human was interacting with another human. The programming of JWR's auto response was really nifty. To test how complex it was, I tried using various terms to see how the program would respond. I wanted to see how far I could go before tripping it up. At one point, certain that this had to be the slickest program that I ever encountered, I challenged it -- after being told repeatedly that JWR's Editor in Chief was responding and not a program -- with a logic problem. A few seconds later, the correct answer came back. OOPS!
I then told Binyamin why I unsubbed and he politely challenged my logic. He, of course, was right. (Looking back, it was a pretty stupid problem I had with something he published.).
Binyamin is a guy who truly takes pride in his work. And he truly values each and every reader. I hope that all of us who gain from JWR value Binyamin back by supporting the site with even a couple of dollars. You know, cliched or not, sometimes we really don't value something until we no longer have it. If you haven't already, please read Binyamin's letter to us.
I've said enough.

12/17/2009, 12:30 am UPDATE (from Gilbert S.): How did a WASP -- I'm not embarrassed to call myself that -- come to be the substitute publisher of JEWISH World Review?
A couple of months ago, a client forwarded an article from JWR. I responded obnoxiously to both him and the general JWR inbox, which eventually gets to the author. To my surprise, I received a very nuanced response from Binyamin, the publisher. Now, I send a lot of e-mail to websites. Some of it, admittedly, is obnoxious. (Hey, nobody knows who I am). However, this was the first time that I actually received a reply from a human --- and the publisher, no less! I was floored!
I struck up a conversation with Binyamin that eventually went off on several tangents. He answered a lot of questions about Jews and Judaism that I had but was embarrassed to ask my Jewish colleagues. Binyamin did so with graciousness and wit. I've been a JWR subscriber ever since.
I can't say that I read JWR EVERY day. (I wish that I had the time to). But when Binyamin sent out his note, I certainly read it --- and I responded.
And now, for a couple of days, I'm going to be running JWR.
Binyamin, your loyal readers need you! And, like me, we are going to do the right thing and help you (in some way) get the help you need! Aren't we, folks?

12/16/2009, 1:30 am UPDATE (from Ezra K.): This is my last night doing "JWR duty". I'm amazed at how one person, Binyamin, manages to run JWR by himself 5 times a week. Just between preparing a truncated edition of JWR and responding to your notes, I was in over my head.
I was the second replacement since Binyamin's illness. I'm sure he'll -- well, "hope", anyway -- find a third. Binyamin has lots of friends, both those he's met and "virtual" ones. But what he really needs is a staff! What he needs is for folks who are gaining from JWR to give SOMETHING to help see this goal to fruition. Can you spare a buck or two? Seriously! 12/15/2009, MIDNIGHT UPDATE (from Ezra K.): Some folks have written here wondering if Binyamin has it in him to overcome this overwhelming obstacle he is now facing. Like others who have been showing our loyalty to our good friend, I am certain he does. When Binyamin decides to do something, he does it. He is relentless. That's especially so if he thinks he's right.
I found a story from the very first issue of JWR . It was penned by the legendary New York writer Jimmy Breslin, who made a career of profiling the many "originals" that populate Gotham. This column about when the master wordsmith met the tenacious journalist turned publisher is amusing to say the least. Please click HERE to read. (I'm sure Binyamin would like to hear your comments after all of these years, too)

12/10/2009, MIDNIGHT UPDATE (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): In a few hours, Binyamin will send out a letter to his friends and supporters about his condition and JWR's future. He has no intention of placing semi-private info on the JWR front page. We had orginally considered recording his words but soon realised it would be impossible, as he is too weak. So we are instead sending his note via e-mail to those who are subscribed to the daily JWR update. (To be added, please click here.).
Binyamin is afraid that his writing skills will fall short. I assured him that the message he wished to convey will come through loud and clear.

12/9/2009, MIDNIGHT UPDATE (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): Today I was schmoozing with Binyamin. I asked him what it was that he misses most about being away from JWR. I had already had a bunch of answers and was sure that his would be one of them. I wasn't even close. He answered: "interacting with my readers". Time, he told me, doesn't usually allows him to answer more than a line or two. But he derives immense pleasure knowing that sitting in a Brooklyn basement, he's touching people all over the world.
In fact, his mood, which obviously has changed drastically, always seems to improve substantially when I read him a note from a distant location.

12/8/2009, MIDNIGHT UPDATE (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): Binyamin remains VERY ill. He is in need of your prayers and has asked that you do an extra act of kindness in his merit. "Something; anything," as he described it. Binyamin, mindful of his beloved readers as ever, also asked that I publish a couple of articles to prevent "JWR Withdrawl". Here are three:
Wesley Pruden,
Cal Thomas:, and
Thomas Sowell.
12/7/2009, 12:30PM UPDATE (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): Binyamin has decided that he will write a letter to his friends and supporters explaining his health condition and discussing his plans for JWR's future. He has no intention of placing semi-private info on the JWR front page. To receive the note, please click
here., which will add you to the JWR daily update list.
12/6/2009, 7:10pm update (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): Binyamin has finally made it home! It's been a long and grueling hospital stay for him. While his keep-fighting-the-good-fight spirit is intact, he is physically exhausted. It is still very hard for him to hold conversations of more than a couple of minutes. He's convinced that he will publish by week's end. (I'm not so certain).
PLEASE continue your prayers for: Binyamin Leib ben (Hebrew: son of) Pesha
12/4/2009, 3:00pm update (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): The Sabbath in Brooklyn rapidly approaches (the earliest of the year, by the way:4:06pm), and Binyamin will remain in the hospital. Have a good weekend, everyone.
12/4/2009, 8:30am update (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): Good morning all. Binyamin is still recuperating. I spoke with him only very briefly last night. The docs are still running some tests. Many of you have been asking me what's going on. I don't know much as BLJ hasn't been too specific. I don't like to pry as it isn't my place to be nosy. I, like the rest of you, am continuing to pray for his full recovery.
12/3/2009, 12:15am update (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): OK ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, quick update. Just off the phone with your fearless leader from his "suite" at the hospital. He's doing a lot better. If all goes according to plan, he anticipates being home on Friday before the Sabbath, but that's just an estimate. He did ask me to update two important stories for you though: George Will and Cal Thomas.
Binyamin is astounded, humbled, grateful and thankful by the volume of kind words wishing him well, and it's sure to help him on the road to recovery and back to his keyboard.
Please continue to have patience. He is very sorry to keep you waiting.
12/2/2009, 4:00am update (from Binyamin's trusty assistant): It's 4am here on the East Coast of the Good Olde US of A and in the few hours since the email went out, the "Get Well Wishes" have been flying in from all over the planet. Binyamin really appreciates that you read JWR every day and are concerned for his well-being. He needs a few days, and he'll be back at the healm.
So, please keep the good wishes coming and continue to keep Binyamin in your thoughts.
12/1/2009, 12:15am Binyamin L. Jolkovsky was taken by ambulance to the hospital on December 1st 2009, and he may be there for a couple of days. He apologizes for not being able to publish during that time.
He asks for your patience and that you pray for him with his Hebrew name: Binyamin Leib ben (Hebrew: son of) Pesha.
