2001, civilian aircraft traffic resumes in the U.S. after the September 11, 2001 attacks

2010, violent crime in the United States declined in 2009 for the third straight year, down 5.3 percent, the FBI said in its annual report. Property crime was down 4.6 percent

2011, a Census Bureau report indicated the U.S. poverty rate climbed to 15.1 percent in 2010, the highest since 1993 and the third consecutive year it increased. The bureau said that translates to a record 46.2 million people in poverty

2012, turmoil blamed by the Obama administration on an amateurish U.S.-made movie disparaging Muhammad spread to Sanaa, Yemen, where hundreds of protesters stormed the U.S. Embassy. ALSO: New York City's Board of Health passed a ban on the sale of big sodas and other sugary drinks, limiting the size sold at restaurants, concession stands and other eateries to 16 ounces

2016, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump rolled out a plan aimed at making child care more affordable, guaranteeing new mothers six weeks of paid maternity leave and suggesting new incentives for employees to provide their workers childcare during a speech in Aston, Pennsylvania
