IS IT good or bad for the Jews?
That old boffo Borscht Belt line repeats itself every
presidential election year, in full throat from West End
Avenue to Miami Beach, in whispers from Park Avenue to
Bel-Air.
But this year, especially after Al Gore anointed Joe
Lieberman, it was case closed. The Democrats took the
Jews for granted, and George W. Bush wrote them off.
And this is turning out bad for the Jews, because it has
freed both tickets to pander to the Arab-American vote,
which appears to be key in Michigan - and perhaps in
California, New Jersey, Illinois and Ohio.
Last week, Bush got the endorsement of the American
Muslim Political Action Committee, an umbrella for groups
that support the terrorist Hamas and Hezbollah.
Bush assiduously sought this nod, and what clinched it for
him was his statement in the final debate, where he alleged
that Arab-Americans were being "racially profiled" by the
FBI, arrested on "what's called ‘secret evidence.'"
Steven Emerson, the anti-terrorist expert who broke the
story of Hillary Clinton's Fifty Grand haul from the
Muslims, told me that this is a complete fake.
"Our government is going after terrorists, period. It has
nothing to do with ethnicity. And George W. Bush knows
it."
If Bush is the great friend of Israel he claims to be, he
should disavow the endorsement of this pro-terrorist
umbrella group. But nobody asked him at all, not the
Jewish Establishment, not Al Gore, not Joe Lieberman.
Why not? Because Gore-Lieberman has been playing
footsy with the Arabs in America, both for money and for
Michigan.
Early this month, the Democratic ticket appointed James
Zogby as a senior advisor to the campaign. This got no
notice in the American media, and you are probably
hearing it here first - even in the New York Post, which
alone supports Israel without guilt or question.
James Zogby, the president of the Arab-American Institute,
is a virulent enemy of Israel, a man who has praised Arab
terrorists nonstop.
Before the 1992 election, Zogby complained to Sen. Joe
Lieberman that he could not get access to Bill Clinton.
Lieberman called Bill and from that day on, Jim Zogby has
been a constant guest in the White House, praised by
Clinton as a fine advisor on the Middle East.
This is a guy who, during the Israeli-Lebanese war, called
Israelis "Nazis" and in 1995 attacked his pal Bill's executive
order barring donations to terrorist groups as comparable
to "some of the worst abuses of the McCarthy era."
Now the Gore-Lieberman campaign makes him kosher
and praises him as being "instrumental in mainstreaming
Arab-Americans into the political process."
If Zogby had his way, Israel would not be an issue in our
elections - the Jewish state would be history. And his rabbi,
from the start until today, is Joe Lieberman.
Is it good or bad for the Jews? How to choose? Al Gore
has a long history of pro-Israel positions. But he stands
with James Zogby and of course with Bill Clinton, who
continues to push Ehud Barak into more and more
surrenders to Yasser Arafat.
On the other hand, George W. Bush plays the Muslim card
--- and who can forget daddy's contempt for Israel?
And everybody says the Jews are smart. So how come
only the Arabs have the two parties at their
Jews, you lose
