• The Hollywood Reporter reports that movie theaters on Hollywood Boulevard increased their armed security after a string of robberies. One theater was robbed of five hundred dollars. The thief made off with a large box of popcorn, a large Diet Coke and a box of Milk Duds.
• Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a plea to Washington asking for more boots on the ground at the border. It's in Congress's good hands now. Democrats and Republicans are now working on a compromise bill where illegal aliens can stay in the U.S. but only if they work as border guards.
• Forbes magazine estimated that Vladimir Putin has amassed a seventy-two billion dollar fortune since he was elected president of Russia twelve years ago. And Putin was raised a communist. Imagine how much richer he'd be if he didn't believe in the equal distribution of wealth.
• Company Man is a new book by CIA agent John Rizzo about his decades as a spook. Great agents are being replaced by technology. After the World Cup finale on Sunday, President Obama broke in on Vladimir Putin's congratulatory call to Angela Merkel to tell her great job.
• Germany's government expelled the CIA station chief over NSA snooping on their phone calls and e-mails. They say they may go back to using typewriters to avoid being spied on. It's never good news when the Germans say they're going back to their old ways of doing things.
• Oklahoma's legislature is reported considering a switch to firing squads for executions. Is this a good idea when you remember the state is now having three earthquakes a day? Ask any L.A. Crip how many preachers he's hit while aiming at a rival drug dealer during the Big One.
