About Jewish World Review

Jewish World Review

September 12, 2010
You don't have to be big to be great.   —   Shalom Aleichem

UPDATED

We are suspending publication in observance of Rosh Hashana, in which Jewish tradition tells us the world -- and all who inhabit it -- are judged. While there will be, of course, celebatory meals shared with family and almost-family, for much of the next 48 hours, observant Jews will spend the day and part of the night in prayer and study. It's a solemn time of reflection and joyous anticipation of what is to come in the year ahead.

Then comes the Sabbath.

JWR values EACH AND EVERY READER! With the understanding that we have a number of non-Jewish readers, please find a number of new articles below. Please also check out our many features -- toons and columnists -- below that you might no otherwise avail yourself to. There are lots of treasures waiting to be found.

All work was completed before the onset of the holy days.

May the coming year be one of health, happiness and inspiration!

"Positive Word Power: Building a better world with the words you speak"

Talk is NOT cheap.

Words are our most valuable - and most powerful - assets. Through words, we can forge or tear down relationships, inspire or demean our children, spouses, or friends, offer comfort or inflict pain. Through words, we can create an atmosphere of harmony or discord, contentment or conflict, blessing or, Heaven forbid, its opposite.

Controlling and properly channeling our words can seem as impossible as stopping a rushing river.

But the Torah (Bible) teaches us that we can --- and must.
