Jewish World Review
Does absence really
make the heart grow fonder?

IF THE FEW TIMES a year we suspend publication in observance of Jewish holy days is any indication, the answer is a resounding "YES!"

JWR readers let us know it on the days they are suffering "withdrawal."

And they are in this state for good reason.

JWR provides a forum that is unmatched anywhere --- on the web or in print. Five days every week, JWR readers are treated to an intellectual feast of ideas and ideals. Why do we do it? To make your life as a person of faith and a patriot more meaningful. To encourage your spiritual growth and defend the values you hold dear.

Though we do offer balance -- "Know your enemy," a wise man once observed -- we are not embarrassed to state our starting premise: This country was founded by those seeking religious freedom and unless we guard against those who wish to take this from us, they will do just that.

Now, the Jewish website for all people of faith needs your help!

It has been more than two years since we last appealed to you for help. At the time, most of our current readers probably didn't even have Internet accounts. But in those two years, we have changed -- a lot. We have broken important stories. We are the source you turn to for facts, figures and clear analysis when you are called upon to defend your most cherished beliefs.

But we cannot continue to do this alone.

I'm sure you are well aware, as a 'Net-savvy individual, that these are very lean times for the Internet economy. Some of the 'Net's biggest names -- with tens of millions of venture capital -- have folded in the last year alone.

JWR, however, is determined to fight the good fight and continue growing the amount of features offered. We are also working on implementing a technological upgrade.

That resolve comes because we know you care about us just as much as PBS viewers and NPR listeners do about their favorite media "sources."

Donations are tax deductible and reflect your wishes that we succeed at this joint undertaking.

WE ARE NOT ASKING THAT YOU GIVE MORE THAN YOU CAN AFFORD OR TO SACRIFICE ON OUR BEHALF --- ONLY THAT YOU HELP PITCH IN TO THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITY. AND, CLICHED OR NOT, IN OUR CASE, EVERY LITTLE BIT REALLY DOES COUNT.

So please, friends, do your part during this season of giving.

With warmest regards, and in friendship,
Binyamin L. Jolkovsky,
Editor in Chief
