Man is what he is, not what he used to be.
— Jewish saying

UPDATED

Hi, loyal JWRers:

JWR values EACH AND EVERY READER!

With the understanding that we have a number of non-Jewish readers, please find 18 articles below.

We are suspending publication in observance of Sukkos, the Jewish religious festival known in English as the Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles. It commemorates, among other things, the Divine's protection as the ancient Hebrews traveled through the desert. One of the special mitzvahs associated with the holy festival -- the most visible -- are huts, in which Jews eat their meals.

While there will be, of course, celebratory meals shared with family and almost-family, for much of the next 48 hours, observant Jews will spend the day and part of the night in extended prayer and study. It's a solemn time of reflection and joyous anticipation of what is to come in the year ahead.

Please also check out our many features -- toons and columnists -- below that you might not otherwise avail yourself to. There are lots of treasures waiting to be found.

The lead essay is particularly good.

All work was completed before the onset of the holy days.

May the coming year be one of health, happiness and inspiration!

I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate your readership and ongoing kindness (including clicking) that keeps me going and the site alive!

May the coming year be one of health, happiness and inspiration!
