Why does a fool speak? Because he wants to show others how wise he is. He'd be better off keeping silent and fooling others, rather than talking and fooling himself.
— Rebbe Zev Wolf of Strikov

UPDATED

JWR values EACH AND EVERY READER!

We are suspending publication in observance of Sukkos, the Jewish religious festival known in English as the Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles. It commemorates, among other things, the Divine's protection as the ancient Hebrews traveled through the desert. One of the special mitzvahs associated with the holy festival -- the most visible -- are huts, in which Jews eat their meals.

While there will be, of course, celebratory meals shared with family and almost-family, for much of the next 48 hours, observant Jews will spend the day and part of the night in extended prayer and study. It's a solemn time of reflection and joyous anticipation of what is to come in the year ahead.

Then comes the Sabbath.

With the understanding that we have a number of non-Jewish readers, please find a number of new articles below. The lead essay is particularly good.

All work was completed before the onset of the holy days.

May the coming year be one of health, happiness and inspiration!
