And now for the important news ....
By Argus Hamilton
The Weather Channel reported a power outage in New York's LaGuardia Airport Tuesday due to record-high heat. It's really bad back East. In New Jersey, three guys suffocated inside a car trunk before they could die of their gunshot wounds.
Mary Tyler Moore went to Capitol Hill Tuesday to lobby the U.S. Senate to pass the stem cell research bill. She could only stay for so long. After two days in Washington, she got lonesome for the relative depth and sincerity of Los Angeles.
Lebanon's Christian Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir flew in to Washington Tuesday for high level talks with the Bush administration. He's regarded in Lebanon as the voice of tolerance and peace and unity. He's like a fish out of water in Washington.
The Internal Revenue Service wrote to fifteen thousand churches last week warning them to stay out of politics or face loss of their tax-exempt status. Episcopalian ministers gave up opening their sermons with President Bush jokes anyway. The Republicans don't think they are funny and the Democrats don't think they are jokes.
