Jewish World Review May 11, 2011/ 7 Iyar, 5771 Bounce, My Backside By Arnold Ahlert http://www.JewishWorldReview.com | It's amazing how often the truly obvious eludes a mainstream media so tainted by left-wing ideology they are incapable of seeing that which is right under their collective noses. Last week Osama bin Laden was killed, and as far as the leftist presstitutes are concerned, it's virtually pointless for anyone in the GOP to run for president. Obama's re-election is a "done deal." Really? Here are some issues that might be far more important to anyone not hopelessly in the tank for the current occupant of the White House. Let's begin with economic "growth." That would be the economic growth of 1.7 percent economists now project for 2011. It's "unexpectedly" down from the 3.4 percent that the economy ostensibly grew in the fourth quarter of 2010. I say ostensibly because, as the New York Post's John Crudele has pointed out on many occasions, including yesterday, the Labor Department has a "peculiar" way of counting jobs. Or more succinctly, as Crudele put it, in order to get to April's total of 244,000 new jobs, "the Labor Department added 175,000 jobs that it thinks and hopes--but can't prove--actually exist." Like so many "news" stories to which the American public are currently subjected, the operative phrase, "who are you going to believe, us or your own lying eyes," remains in effect. It is a prevailing attitude so ingrained in this administration and their media apparatchiks, that they are apparently incapable of seeing the level of depravity they have achieved. Forget their characterizations of the economy for a moment and consider this: the killing of Osama bin Laden was arguably the best thing that happened to this administration since the 2008 election--yet they managed to tell Americans so many different stories about what went down, the truth has become impossible to discern. Question: if they can't get their stories straight about best news they've ever experienced, what are they willing to do with bad news? Speaking of bad news, what do these enlightened elitists think resonates more forcefully with Americans, the death of a terrorist kingpin, or a housing market still in freefall? According to Zillow Inc., a company which keeps track of housing prices, 28 percent of U.S. homeowners with mortgages are "underwater," meaning they owe more on their mortgages than their house is currently worth. In Las Vegas, Nevada, 85 percent of homeowners with mortgages are underwater, the highest percentage in the country. Not to be totally "outshone," Reno, Nevada is at 73 percent, making the top five. It is worth recalling that their inimitable Senator, Majority Leader Harry Reid, once said, "you know, but for me we'd be in a worldwide depression." One can forgive Nevadans for thinking that they're are already in a depression, but that forgiveness is tempered by the reality that these same folks voted to re-elect Harry in 2010, when most of the country was coming out of its socialist/progressivist, re-distributionist coma. Both the kind with which one runs one's vehicle and that which spews from a president once again trying to blame someone else for his self-inflicted problems. Gas prices reached the highest level on record for the spring, and Obama and his media minions want to blame the oil companies for their "obscene profits." No doubt such b.s. resonates with Obama's core constituency, for whom all corporations are inherently evil. Yet more and more Americans are becoming aware that we have an administration whose contempt for the American public's understanding of basic economics is breathtaking. Two things contribute overwhelmingly to high gas prices. One is this administration's determination to keep as much of America and its coastlines off limits to oil exploration, even to the point of a "contempt of court" ruling against Interior Secretary Ken Salazar for refusing to issue more oil exploration permits. Second is quantitative easing or QE2, the ultimate Keynesian Economics-inspired Dollar Destroyer, initiated by Ben Bernanke. Since all commodities--including oil--are priced in dollars, printing an additional six hundred billion greenbacks makes each one worth less, which makes oil more expensive. An added "bonus?" A trip to the local supermarket has become an increasingly dread-inducing moment for Americans already struggling with a lousy economy. To be blunt, food prices have soared in the last couple of years. What's more distressing than soaring food prices? The amount of gas it takes to drive to the supermarket. What's more infuriating? The government telling Americans that inflation isn't a problem, because food and fuel aren't counted when core inflation is calculated by the government. In other words, there isn't any significant inflation--as long as Americans don't eat or drive. Far be it from me to make any hard predictions about the 2012 election. The same media which hammered the Bush administration for high unemployment and high gas prices will do everything in their power to ignore the fact that both are far, far worse under Mr. Hope and Change. And they'll continue to ignore a foreign policy which, other than killing Osama bin Laden, remains a wonderment of cluelessness coupled with ideologically-inspired naivete, epitomized by a Libyan adventure in which no outcome even remotely accrues to America's interest. But leaving foreign policy aside, I'm betting my fellow Americans don't give a damn about what either this administration or its media lapdogs have to say about anything, as long as the economy remains in a serious funk. As my brother is fond of saying, elections are about "bellies and pocketbooks." Mr. Obama is oh-for-two in that regard, and if things don't turn around in a big way, he's not going to lose the 2012 election. He's going to get hammered. Osama bin Laden? Dead. A moribund economy, courtesy of the most ideologically rigid president in history? Very much alive.
