Noble-sounding names mask political motives
http://www.NewsAndOpinion.com | Have you ever heard of the expression, "Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing"? Well, in American politics, that sage advice applies now more than ever. And if you want to know why, here's "The Real Deal."
THERE ARE A lot of political groups out there with very noble-sounding names. They're going to take your money and then tell you how to vote, so you can help them save the world. But buyers, beware, because too often your money's doing little more than propping up left-wing special interest groups.
Take Amnesty International. Now, this group claims that it wants your money to expose human rights abuses around the world. But lately, the leftists at Amnesty have been more interested in attacking American G.I.s than examining Saddam's human rights abuses.
I saw their bias firsthand when I was in Congress, when Amnesty International actually refused to back my bill that condemned Sudan for the mass murder of two million Christians. Because conservatives backed that bill, Amnesty International said, "no thanks."
Then there's the Congressional Black Caucus, which claims to advance the causes of all African-Americans. And yet, the majority of the Black Caucus refused to vote for a bill that supported our troops in Iraq. Now, their logic followed Al Sharpton, who said, after September 11, "We don't owe America nothing. America owes us." But just like Al Sharpton, the Black Caucus seemed to forget that many of America's heroes on September 11 and during this war were minorities who proudly served this great country.
Then, of course, there's the National Council of Churches. Talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing. This leftist group passes itself off as a mainstream Christian organization whose only stake in the political process is upholding the teachings of Jesus. What a bunch of bull. These priests are left-wingers who have never met a conservative or a conservative cause that they've liked. They opposed our president and they opposed his war of liberation in Iraq. And worse, they preach neutrality in this moral crisis. And by doing so, the National Council of Churches shed their sheep's clothing and revealed the wolf that always worked within.
They should be ashamed.
