Barry Bonds excused steroid use Friday, saying ballplayers
are entertainers, not Olympic athletes. He implied baseball is an
exhibition sport. This leaves him free to forget Hank Aaron's all-
time record and concentrate on breaking Meadowlark Lemon's.
Bill Clinton left New York for Los Angeles Thursday to speak
at a dinner for defense attorneys. Then he spent the weekend in
Beverly Hills without Hillary. So Martha Stewart wasn't the only
one fitted with an ankle monitor on Thursday night.
Peter Arnett said Udey Hussein was about to overthrow his
father when the U.S. invaded Iraq. He was a bad egg. Udey Hussein
was killed by Army Rangers in a hail of bullets but he was so full
of cocaine he didn't know he was dead for two days.
Treasury Secretary John Snow will tour sixty cities to push
Social Security Reform. It's good for his health. Standing onstage
and proposing private Social Security accounts is a sure way for
any elected official to get plenty of vegetables.
Oklahoma University, it was revealed Friday, ran criminal
background checks on football recruits. Last fall the school
banned drinking on campus. People in Lebanon staged a
demonstration Saturday and demanded freedom for people in Oklahoma.
The California Supreme Court told Arnold Schwarzenegger
Thursday he does not have the authority to issue an emergency
order suspending state laws. The court doesn't understand. Arnold
was merely following natural law, which says fish gotta swim,
birds gotta fly, and Germans gotta seize emergency powers and
suspend the law.
